EUAs continued to rise while the power forward prices slightly retreated

The European power spot prices increased yesterday, buoyed by forecasts of continuously rising power demand and dropping wind output. The day-ahead prices averaged 214.67€/MWh in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, +56.05€/MWh day-on-day.

EUAs extended their uptrend and posted a 3.1% gain on Wednesday, the market participants pointing at the support from the lack of auction on one side and the decreasing temperatures raising the thermal power generation on the other, while mentioning the potential bearish risk coming next week with the resumption of the primary sales. Hitting up to 88.55€/t, the EUA Dec.22 closed at 87.58€/t, +2.67€/t from Tuesday’s settlement.

Meanwhile, the power forward prices posted slight losses along the curve.
