EUAs edged up but failed to climb back above 60€/t

The European power spot prices for today edged down compared to Friday as the slightly higher solar, nuclear and hydro generations expected in the upcoming hours offset the forecasts of wind shortage. The day-ahead prices hence averaged 155.18€/MWh in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, -3.98€/MWh from Friday but +13.46€/MWh week-on-week.

The carbon prices overall slightly rose on Friday despite a temporary midday retracement, but failed to held above 60€/t as the level materialized as a strong resistance mainly attributed to option traders taking their profits from call positions before the expiry of the September options. The EUA Dec.21 contract eventually settled at 59.48€/t, +17-cent from Thursday’s close but posting a 1.44€/t (-2.4%) weekly loss.

Lifted by the slight rebound of gas and carbon prices, the power prices posted healthy gains along the curve over the last session of the week.
